Mechanical Facade Systems
Mechanical façade systems are a façade service that uses a combination of structural elements and cladding materials to provide weather protection, thermal insulation and architectural expression. The structural elements of a mechanical façade system typically include a frame, a subframe, and a cladding. The subframe distributes the loads from the cladding to the frame, while the frame provides the overall support for the system. The cladding is the outermost layer of the system and provides weather protection and architectural expression.
Mechanical façade systems are typically divided into ventilated and non-ventilated. Ventilated facade systems have an air gap between the cladding and frame that allows natural ventilation and helps to improve the thermal performance of the system. In non-ventilated facade systems, there is no air gap and the cladding is attached directly to the frame.
